LONDON, U.K. 16 May, 2015 — Our British friends opened the first UK hemp products pharmacy yesterday, in Twickenham, South London. “Carun” is offering a range of high-end CBD- and hemp-based health and beauty products aiming to provide customers with the “healing super-powers” of hemp. In answer to questions as to whether Londoners could expect to get high, Carun managing director Michal Takac assured reporters that the company’s range is strictly therapeutic at this time. Cannabis is illegal in Britain, where a senior citizen recently received a suspended prison sentence for using cannabis to relieve severe arthritis pain.
Carun, a Czech company, is not the first to sell hemp products in the British market. The Body Shop launched its popular fair-trade “Hemp Body Care” range about 20 years ago, and leading canna-pharm company, England-based GW Pharmaceuticals markets CBD-based medicines in the U.K. and other countries.
According to Takac, the company’s organic products are formulated using Carmagnola, a dioecious heirloom hemp from Northern Italy, which is among the leading industrial hemp strains used for premium textiles. The EU classifies Carmagnola as a low-THC cultivar with no drug value.
The Carun website states their products are enriched with “extract which contains anti-inflammatory cannabinoids. These compounds are already produced naturally by our bodies, and support our immune system, restore the balance and health of cells, as well as possessing anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibiotic properties.”
Carun’s product range is popular throughout the EU, with hemp becoming increasingly recognized for its healing effects on common conditions like dry skin and acne.
“Active cannabinoids, such as those found in the Carun product range, have shown promise in improving a variety of skin conditions, including acne and eczema,” said Dr. Alexis Granite, a consultant dermatologist at Cadogan Cosmetics (via Daily Mail).
